Thoughtless lies on the edge of a high bare desert cliff. Skeletons bake in the sun far below. Thoughtless stretches on. Nothing can be seen from it but endless blue sky. On the clifftop the sky feels very near.
“You could reach up and paint with the clouds or move them around with a fingertip, shove that grey one aside,” says the guide as the clouds gather and grey.
Thunder echoes and the downpour begins. The Thoughless huddle and hunker on the cliffs (bare of cactus or tumbleweed). Their field of vision offers clay becoming light brown, spattered, and muddy — and they see nothing else.
