What is solarpunk?
My fellow Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers authors Commando Jugendstil and Tales from The EV Studio put together this video for the Turin International Book Fair.
It features editors and authors from the solarpunk community sharing their thoughts. Together we're imagining optimistic futures based on renewable energy.
My soundbite was: "Solarpunk futures are — green spaces with clean water that are pedestrian, collective, feminist, creative communities. And they include non-human animals. "
Mary "solarpunk" Shelley cat did a great job (at 6:15) helping from her rather ridiculous cat tree which she absolutely loves. And what better time to wear this solar-colored "Veganism is Feminism" tee from The Herbivore Clothing Company. Seriously.
I'm holding a stack of solarpunk books:
If I had it to do over, I would have shot this in horizontal, possibly used the animal sanctuary where I work as a backdrop, remembered to call myself "Shel" and included Ecotopia 2121 and Biketopia in my stack of books. But you know, this isn't about that.
It's about imagining the future. It's about saving the earth for and from ourselves. It's about creating a world for everyone. It's about telling our stories and joining the conversation.
In solidarity, friends!

I like Solar Punk fiction and I want to read more solar punk fiction that offers hope for the future. Wish more solarpunk fiction was free, that way it would truly be against capitalist greed. But I understand people gotta eat, and baby needs a new pair of shoes.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this explanation/introduction. Dodgy music though…
