Mountainous, craggy Anxiety attracts many climbers to its beautiful peaks where long-haired goats roam. The climbers wear braids of the goats’ sleek pale blue, nearly silver, hair as talisman against falling. The climbers of Anxiety make their ascents look easy. In the little chalets below, they prepare by caring for the goats, grooming them, and braiding the goats’ beards and tails. Snow leopards hunt the goats but are often friendly when well-fed leaping from rock to rock beside friends. The goats themselves are more dangerous. Sometimes, they take a dislike and push away. Stories circulate: once upon a goat pushed a climber from a peak, cliff, or precarious perch on a whim with no forewarning. Everyone knows someone, otherwise hearty and hale, who died this way. Some have seen it. And so they ardently worship and care for the goats and hope it will not happen to them.
